Good old fashioned FTP need from VFP app

Got a client need for me to FTP some data of theirs to a 3rd party
vendor. Nothing fancy, just regular FTP (not SFTP, not FTP-S). Many
moons ago I interacted with Robert Abrams VFP class (wow...I think that
was VFP5 days?!?!?).

What do folks use nowadays for FTP from a VFP app?

Hi Mike

I used to use some code from SweetPotato. Not used it for a while but can
send you a copy if it will help?

Dropbox, or its superior (IMO) competitor, Box.com, work by monitoring a specified directory, and when something changes, uploading that to the "cloud". The client machine would then receive the update as soon as you add the file to the directory.

Yes, it's magic, but it works very well.

Excellent idea - I'd forgotten about Dropbox. I used to use it to transfer
updated exes to a client. I'm about to modify another system to use it.

FWIW you could also do this by running the FileZilla client with command line switches.

If it has to be VFP and FTP you can automate it with a little cost using

Not free, but pretty cheap - I use West Wind's WWIPStuff for both FTP
and SFTP within VFP.

I've also used TaskManager to fire of WinScp (free) scripts.  I haven't
done it, but I have no doubt you could accomplish this with the VFP RUN
command.
