You can get the free version and install it. The pay-for ones give some
extras but for this group reading, I do not think it necessary to PAY.

Then it becomes .NIX
There's a version of VS for Mac as well and the new release promises more
Mac love. No plans for a Linux version of VS ... yet.

If you working in the Python world, I'm a big fan of JetBrain's PyCharm
IDE which has versions for Windows, MacOS and Linux and one license allows
you to run across all 3 environments. There's free and paid editions.
Highly recommended.
