.HLP files don't work in recent versions of Windows, as the Help reader had
been "deprecated" (abandoned) by Microsoft, in favor of HTML Help.

Are you sure your .HLP file is corrupted, and it's not just a problem with
the viewer? What errors are you getting?

Since a number of files claim to be "corrupt" at the same time, I'm
inclined to believe either the reader is broken or there has been damage to
the operating system. I'd suggest making a backup and then testing proper
operation of the OS, the disk image, etc. I don't know if you have access
to any malware-tester; few support such an old system. But you might
consider copying some of the allegedly-corrupt files to an internet virus
scanner such as VirusTotal.com to confirm there isn't a problem.

Doesn't the old .HLP/.CHM files have to reside on the local drive, not a

What's the error message?

Are you using Win 10 to open it? Win 7? You need the winhelp system installed.
